j: We were already starting to have our doubts about going to Cambodia due to the currency problems, inconsistent visa information, poor food quality and hygiene, and a gun-culture leading to armed robbery (especially in the capital). Then the recent riots against the Thai embassy and business in Phnom Penh, of which we learned as we inquired at a travel agent who stated that the borders were closed and flights to Cambodia cancelled. Another travel agent said it shouldn't be a problem to go. The newspaper said tourism was "not greatly affected" but at the same time Thai Airways had indeed cancelled flights. Fate, it would seem, had conspired against us, Cambodia was just not in the cards on this trip. More time for Bangkok and the beach before heading to Vietnam...

For what it's worth, what we had planned on visiting was Siem Reap, near which sits Angkor Wat, as well as Battambang briefly, and the capital Phnom Penh.

Next country: Vietnam (previous country: Thailand).
